Take students along the journey, utilizing Embodied Labs modules to make lessons more immersive, interactive, and fun

Experiential learning at a distance

Following the “prepare, embody, reflect” framework, a facilitator puts on a VR headset and guides students through the immersive experience. In this way, Embodied Labs allows for experiential learning at a distance, combining technology, science, and Socratic inquiry.

A starting place for discussion

The teacher or facilitator can use the simulation as a jumping off point for dialogue with students, pausing at key points for reflection, to highlight learning goals, or to model thought processes. Modules provide rich source material for students to respond to.

How CSU-Channel Islands used Embodied Labs to pivot during a pandemic

When COVID-19 necessitated a shift to remote learning, professors Jaime Hannans, PhD, RN, CNE and Colleen Nevins, DNP, RN, CNE got creative, finding new ways to support their students’ training. The two instructors became the students’ guides, putting on the Embodied Labs VR headset themselves, sharing their screen and audio so the students could see and hear what they were experiencing. Both instructors and students found value in this adapted training style to meet their remote learning needs.

The pause points made it alive to dig deeper. I could ask different reflection questions depending on where the discussion was going.
— Dr. Jaime Hannans, Faculty Member, CSU-Channel Islands School of Nursing
